The Prophet Muhammad had made it very clear that after him there will be 12 Imams that we must follow in order to stay righteously guided. These 12 Imams all derive from his very own Lineage which the Shia follow.

The Sunni on the other hand have their Caliphs instead of the Imams which begin with those so called Companions who are responsible for killing the Prophets Daughter and making an attempt to Hijack the Religion of Islam.
